This man will do anything to be successful, including working on his honeymoon.
Karl Hudson, a 33-year-old entrepreneur, makes seven figures a year through his investments, agencies and personal business ventures, allowing him to live a lavish lifestyle – but it comes at a cost.
Hudson, from Newcastle, England, admitted to Jam Press that his 18-hour days have taken a toll on his marriage.
Hudson married his wife, Charlotte, in July after being together for eight years, and shared that his “constant work can cause problems and arguments”.
He takes Charlotte, 33, on six holidays a year, but he never stops working – he takes his laptop with him everywhere, including on their belated four-week honeymoon in Australia and Bali.
This year alone, the Hudsons visited Thailand, Poland, Vietnam, Spain and the Philippines – “but the work doesn’t stop”.
“If I have to jump on the laptop while we’re there, then I will because that money means the next trip will be even better,” he claimed. “My job allows us to have the finer things in life, which she obviously enjoys.”
“I will never change,” Hudson said.
And Charlotte is familiar with her husband’s work ethic on another level: he’s her employer.
Charlotte is a content manager at one of Hudson’s companies, a backlink building company called Searcharoo.
“My wife knows that I can immerse myself in work, but it’s a sacrifice we have to make to live the life we have now,” he said.
“I’ve had some days in my career where I’ve worked 18 hours straight, but that doesn’t stop me. I can’t turn it off, because I love what I do,” he added. “The more you work the more you get.”
Hudson usually reinvests much of his winnings, but he also likes to treat himself.
The couple live with two Yorkshire Terriers in a $455,500 (£350,000) home. He also bought a $45,000 (£35,000) Ford Ranger Wildtrak and his wife drives a $71,000 (£55,000) BMW X5.
“I’m not one to provide the money, though — I’m actually quite a reserved person,” he said, noting that their current life of luxury is a far cry from Hudson’s growing up.
Hudson grew up living in council housing in a rough area and believes that dedication to work to an extreme extent is necessary to succeed.
“Growing up in a rough area in a council house has always helped me stay humble,” he said. “Despite the area we lived in, I had a great upbringing and my SEO journey began in that home.”
Hudson’s father, who worked as a life coach, needed help setting up a website and asked his son for help knowing that he was a “huge fan of computer games”.
“In those days it was a lot of trial and error, with a big emphasis on error – it was the perfect way to learn.”
Hudson launched his first website from his parents’ bedroom, and Searcharoo launched in 2018.
When he started SEO, it was “very different” than it is now.
“You were able to just spam and things would rank, the hardest part is all the algorithm changes and trying to test what works because Google doesn’t tell you,” Hudson recalls.
“So networking with other people, testing and sharing ideas, is what I’ve done for many years to help give me the edge, which has definitely helped contribute to my success.”
Hudson credits his financial success to his desire to never give up when things go sideways – something he believes today’s generation has a hard time doing.
“Unfortunately, with how easy technology has made everything, I’m afraid the younger generation has lost that fire,” he said. “Gen Z expects everything to be handed to them, but that’s not the real world – I got exactly what I put in.”
“Young guys wouldn’t dream of working holidays, but if they want a life like mine, it’s part of the job.”
