My boyfriend who makes $200,000 a year proposed to Temu with a $38 engagement ring

A woman took to Reddit after discovering her engagement ring wasn’t what she thought.

Although, at first, she thought the ring was beautiful, red flags began to wave when questions about specific details were repeatedly dodged.

In the end, she discovered that the ring had been bought for $38 for Temu. But does it really matter?

“I really don’t want to wear it”

“I asked him where he found it [the ring] and he wouldn’t tell me where, but that he had taken a lot of that,” said the woman.

“Until yesterday I didn’t think anything about it. We were in bed and I asked him if it was a diamond or a moissanite, mostly out of curiosity… He said he didn’t know and would have to look it up. When I glanced at his phone, he was on the Temu app. I asked him if he got it from there and he didn’t answer. So I asked again and he responded with something like ‘does it matter?’ and left the room and ended up sleeping on the couch.”

According to the post, the woman’s fiance earns a salary of about $200,000 a year, leading her to believe that the price had nothing to do with the fact that he was frugal out of necessity.

“I have people texting me that the ring could be bad for my health and that Temu has terrible standards for their jewelry and work problems, so now I really don’t want to wear it,” she added in an update.

In the last addition to the post, the woman stated that after several conversations about the ring, her fiance suggested that she choose a new ring herself and buy it with her own money.

‘This will be your future if you marry him’

Most commenters on the post agreed with the woman, expressing greater concern for the quality and thought behind the ring, rather than the price.

“Normally, I’d celebrate someone who didn’t accept all of their engagement/wedding expenses for bankruptcy, but $38??” said one commenter.

After questioning her boyfriend, the woman discovered that the ring had been bought for $38 for Temu. Reuters

“I’m as tight on money as a duck’s ass, as we say in the UK, but I’d spend a bit more than that to at least get a band that was a reasonable carat of gold and then save up . precious stones.”

“A Ring Pop is more romantic than a ring from Temu,” said another.

Others asked the woman to consider whether she should stay with him at all.

“This will be your future if you marry him,” said one.

“He’s telling you exactly who he is. He is free and now waiting for you to buy your ring.”
